Pirma Lyga (Lithuania) – BFA Vilnius vs FK Tauras Tauragė

LFF stadionas (Vilnius). It was the final clash for both teams in 2024 – placed in the middle of the table. The home team BFA Vilnius was in fight for the 8th position while FK Tauras Tauragė on the opposing side wanted to secure its 5th place in the Lithuanian Pirma Lyga. The game ended with a win for FK Tauras Tauragė (0-1).

BFA Vilnius, led by young and talented coach Haroldas Šidlauskas, started the match in 4-2-3-1 formation, which was often transformed to a 4-1-3-2 reminiscent shape – attacking with two men in front of the opposing net. The tactically disciplined and well-organized team put the focus on holding the shape as well as on high pressing play; they tried to gain the ball in the quickest and easiest way hand in hand with controlling the middle of the pitch.

The swift short passing play (even by one-touch) during building up worked well as well as the several promising crosses arriving from the flanks.

FK Tauras Tauragė, under the guidance of experienced coach Darius Gvildys, was shaped to a formation of 4-2-3-1. Dynamic attacking and hard physical challenges characterized the team’s way of play. The tactics, the mentality plus individual abilities allowed them to gain ball in the midfield area quickly and to turn it to promising offensive movements. In the middle of the second half, they scored the decisive goal by a penalty kick, thanks to an ‘international connection’: Nigerian player Kazeem Aderounmu was the one who won it while his South Korean teammate, Min-woo Lee took the lead by that.

Although BFA Vilnius lost the game by one, they won the clash of the ‘best potential players’ by two!

Artiom Osipovič (BFA Vilnius), winger born in 2006.

Artiom’s performance in this game demonstrated, what a promising player he is. Playing on the left wing, had to face his opponents in 1v1s a lot and often was necessary for him to rely on his technical abilities, with quickness. A promising dribbler and wide playmaker, was showing great agility and mobility on the areas where he moved; was not afraid to ‘use’ his weak foot to make passes or to shoot.

Nikas Benevičius (BFA Vilnius), midfielder born in 2007.

Despite of his young age, Nikas was quite proactive and showed himself bravely at asking for the ball. The likeable aggressiveness and determination that he presented during the physical challenges were also ‘extra points’ to his great performance. Was absolutely fast-paced in play; demonstrated his superb technical readiness and ball control abilities in the form of, among others, a well executed ‘Zidane Roulette’. His youthful, dynamic ball movements gave boost for the midfield/offense.

To FOLLOW also BFA Vilnius centre-back Ąžuolas Indriulis (2006), striker Žygimantas Jurevičius (2008) and right-back Patrikas Pranckus (2006); and FK Tauras Tauragė midfielder Dovydas Druktenis (2005) and left-back Augustas Morkūnas (2005).
