U19 Ligaen (Denmark) – Vejle BK vs FC Midtjylland

After a balanced first half which ended 0-0, Vejle started the second half with great impact and scored two goals in the first 10 minutes (the first one after 20 seconds!). Their left winger Gammelgaard secured the win with a beatiful curved shot from the corner of the penalty box. Midtjylland scored the last two goals of the match on set pieces to chase a positive result but the game ended with a win for the home team (3-2).

Vejle BK, coached by Dzevad Sejdic in a 1-4-3-3 formation, had their midfielders Jensen and Ravn linking up centrally while the other midfielder Subasic moving on the sides to create overloads in wide areas. When defending in a low block they adopted a 1-4-4-2 formation with Gammerlgaard dropping on the left side and the other two forwards in the front line (see image below).

FC Midtjylland, coached by Niclas Hougaard in a 1-4-3-3 formation, produced most of their offensive actions from their left side with Arnarsson and Emefile delivering dangerous crosses in the opposition box to create chances. Out of possession, they pressed high successfully both on goal-kicks and in open play. Interesting approach used on goal-kicks where they ‘matched’ the opposition centre-backs with their striker and right winger and used an asymmetric shape with their right back pushing onto the opposition left-back and their left winger dropping on the opposite side to control the opposition right-back (see image below).

Here the two players who stood out in this match:

Benjamin Nicolaisen (VB), right winger born 2009.

Tall forward, strong in physical and aerial duels. Good in ‘flicking’ the ball with his head and in holding onto the ball when receiving back to goal. Benjamin made a great back-heel pass to unlock the opposition defense for his team first goal.

Benjamin is a very interesting profile who I could see be in and around the first team within the next 2-3 years. His skillset suggests that he can reach at least Superliga level as a striker.

Egill Orri Arnarsson (FCM), left-back born 2008.

Egill playmaking and crossing skills are outstanding! He can dribble with the ball at speed to beat his opponents and deliver dangerous crosses into the opposition penalty box. He combined with his team mates by using one touch to isolate his opponents and progress higher up the pitch. Good height, strength and speed over longer distances.

Egill is a top profile! His physical attributes together with his high technical / tactical level makes me believe that he can reach one of the Top 5 Leagues within the next 5 years.

To FOLLOW closely also VB left winger Nicolas Gammelgaard (2008); and FCM right winger Alberto Velásquez (2008).
