Akraneshöllin (Akranes, Iceland). Kári played against Haukar in the closing round (Matchday 22) of the Icelandic 2. deild karla (third tier) in an indoor environment, and won by the final score of 2-1 at the end.

13th of September was the date of the 2025 2. deild karla season ending, but there were still open questions regarding promotion and relegation. On the home side, Akranes based team Kári was in the 10th position (out of 12 teams) before the clash, only one point above the relegation zone, ahead of Víðir — who hosted champion candidate team Ægir in the last round. Hafnarfjörður based guest team Haukar (who is two times winner of the Icelandic third league, back in 2001 and 2007), took its place in the 7th position, far from the promotion as well as from the relegation — so they could play with much less pressure.

Kári, led by its coach Andri Júlíusson (former player of the team), started the game in 4-4-1-1 formation. Their play was operated often by long-range passes from the back-line, especially by the Icelandic-Polish right centre-back Oskar Wasilewski. Mainly thanks to the features of the pitch, they also laid big emphasis on short passing based play, with quick combinations. Substitution player Þór Llorens Þórðarson (started and played mostly as left midfielder), who came on to the pitch in the 30th minute as replacement of the injured Marinó Hilmar Ásgeirsson, turned to be one of the team’s key players.
Haukar, under the guidance of English expert Ian Jeffs (former player and manager for several clubs in Iceland), opted for a 4-1-4-1 formation. The team has demonstrated a fairly likable mentality — despite of they could play without big stake and with less pressure, the focus was on to win the game and to collect all the three points. As the opposition side did, they also emphasized the quick combination play based on short passes. Daði Snær Ingason (former U17 international player for Iceland, with over 120 matches for Haukar), played as defensive midfielder, came up as the main playmaker of the team. Goalkeeper Sveinn Óli Guðnason also should be mentioned, for some of his really important saves and blocks.

Despite of this game was more important for the home side Kári, the guests Haukar took the lead in the 27th minute, by a nice header of striker Sigurður Hrannar Þorsteinsson (0-1). In the second half at the 67th and 70th minutes, the moments of Kári’s right-back Finnbogi Laxdal Aðalgeirsson came up: first, scored an equalizer by a great right-footed finish (1-1), and after that scored the decisive goal by his head (2-1) — securing the win, hand in hand with the 2. deild karla participation right for his team.
