Eliteserien (Norway) – Molde FK vs Tromsø IL

In the Aker Stadion, Molde FK secured three important points which lifted the team at a safe distance from the relegation zone and got them closer to the European spots. In a balanced match, both teams showed good defensive stability with Tromsø IL paying the lack of experience in crucial moments by conceding two penalties, which defined the final result (2-0). Nevertheless, the world’s northernmost professional team Tromsø showcased great talents in their ranks.

Molde FK, coached by the experienced manager Per-Mathias Høgmo (with a past in Tromsø IL and at the helm of the Norwegian National team), adopted a 1-4-3-3 formation in possession which turned into 1-4-4-2 out of possession.

Interesting was to observe their positioning in the build up phase with their back four sliding towards their left side with left-back Kabini in high position and the right-back Linnes moving inwards to create a 3+1 against the opposition front two (see image below).

When defending they set up in a low block and their midfielder Breivik joined the striker Gulbrandsen in the first line of pressure to screen the opposition central midfielders, Edvardsson and Jenssen (see image below).

Tromsø IL, coached by Jørgen Vik in a 1-3-5-2 formation, impressed also for their confidence in the build up with their left footed goalkeeper Haugaard joining the three centre-backs in setting up the play with precise progressive passes (as in the image below).

They created dangerous situations mainly from set play, due to their players high average height and precise deliveries from their captain Jenssen.
