U19 1. Division (Denmark) – FC Roskilde vs B.93

In the opening game of the season for both teams, played on the artificial turf of the Roskilde Idrætspark, FC Roskilde achieved their first 3 points in a match with many turnovers (intended as both changes of possession and of result). The final result of 4-3 came after Roskilde’s striker Ciltik evened the result (2-2) just before the half-time break with a great shot from distance.

Roskilde, coached by Frederik Mondrup in a 1-4-4-2 formation, was very dangerous on counterattacks and converted them into chances by using the spaces left by the opposition (as in the image below).

B.93, coached by Jeppe Mathiasen in a ‘mirrored’ formation, applied an intense man-marking high pressure on the opposition (see image below) which forced them into many mistakes and allowed the away team to recover the ball in very convenient areas and to turn the regains quickly into scoring chances.

Their second goal scored by the Icelandic Youth National team player Thomas Ari Arnarsson came immediately after his regain of the ball in the opposition half. The striker in this match adapted in the position of right winger ‘invited’ a pass towards his direct opponent (see image below) before intercepting the ball and starting a fast counterattack which he finished with a precise shot from close range.

Here the player who stood out in this match:

Thomas Ari Arnarsson (B.93), striker / winger (born 2007).

Thomas showcased a wide range of skills as a winger by attacking the back space with well-timed movements and fake runs. His ability to change direction and speed with the ball was outstanding! The angles of his cuts were extremely sharp and very difficult to defend. On the top of this he can use both feet to dribble and shoot which makes him even more unpredictable on the ball.

He is a great prospect for the biggest Clubs in Europe and getting regular time with B.93 will allow him to arrive in good form to the next U19 European Championship where he can make a difference and finally secure a move to a top Club. I see English, German and Italian Clubs as favorites for a potential transfer.

To FOLLOW also Roskilde striker Emil Ciltik (2008) and B.93 centre-back Karl Noppen (2007).
