Gradski stadion in Prijedor (Bosnia-Herzegovina). Matchday 2 of the 2025/26 Premijer liga – Newly promoted FK Rudar Prijedor in its first league clash at home faced NK Široki Brijeg, last season’s fifth-placed team. The match has ended with an away win by the final score of 1-3.

FK Rudar Prijedor on the home side, lost in its season opener against the 2024/25 Premijer liga silver medalist team FK Borac Banja Luka by the score of 6-0, so they were hungry for a good result, to offer it to the fans; NK Široki Brijeg on the opposition side, has finished 1-1 draw against HŠK Posušje in the first round, and their plan was to play dominant and confident football from the kick-off.

FK Rudar Prijedor (in yellow shirt), led by Serbian coach Perica Ognjenović (who is known for managing Serbia’s U18 national team earlier), started the game in 4-2-3-1 formation, with the tall and strong Croatian-Austrian striker Max Galić up front. They put a lot of emphasis on physical challenges, as they knew that the opposition team can build up its offense quickly – mainly by short passes. The defensive midfielder duo, Cameroonian Donald Molls and Ghanaian Joseph Amoah (both born 1998) definitely should be highlighted for their versatility and high work rate, in addition for offering stability and making great connection between the defense and midfield.
NK Široki Brijeg (playing in full white), under Croatian coach Dean Klafurić (formerly managing Legia Warszawa in Poland, Budapest Honvéd FC in Hungary and FK TSC in Serbia, among others), decided to start also in 4-2-3-1 formation. They were able to demonstrate significant difference in the build-up and offensive phases, regarding consciousness and effectiveness. Their build-up tactic was based on confident and swift short passes, which turned to be a good choice, as they could practice dominance in the first half already. The two full-backs/wing-backs (Ivan Pranjić as LB and Franjo Posavac as RB) offered quality support on/from the flanks; Croatian left winger Domagoj Jelavić stepped forward as the leader of the offense.

The leading goal came up in the 21st minute, when NK Široki Brijeg left-back Ivan Pranjić took the advantages of a defensive mistake on the opposing side, and made an assist to right winger Matija Kolarić, by a left-footed low cross (0-1). Nine minutes later, the away team doubled its lead: Domagoj Jelavić was the scorer, by a deflected right-footed shot (0-2). In the 72nd minute, substitution striker Kristijan Sesar has performed a great tackle and won the ball in the offensive zone, and his superb pass turned to be an assist to the team’s third goal, scored by Mato Stanić (0-3 / as you can see in the two images below). Although the home team FK Rudar Prijedor found the opposition net in the 78th minute (with the header of Spanish right centre-back Abel Pascual, which was assisted by right-back Đuro-Giulio Đekić), there were no more hits coming up in the match (1-3).
