Eliteserien (Norway) – FK Bodø/Glimt vs Tromsø IL

In the Aspmyra Stadion, home of Bodø/Glimt currently at the top of the Eliteserien football and league table, Tromsø played a brave and convincing game and secured a point (1-1 the final result) maintaining a short distance from the top (-6) with one match less than their competitors, Bodø and Viking. Both goals of the match were scored in the first half with Tromsø IL equalizing just before the half-time break by the tap-in of their striker Camões.

Bodø/Glimt, coached by Kjetil Knutsen in a 1-4-3-3 formation, used their captain Patrick Berg to link the play in the early phases of the build up. The other two midfielders Saltnes and Evjen moved higher up the pitch to create density in the central channel around their striker Kasper Høgh. The opposition tried to limit Berg’s involvement in the build up by screening him with their two strikers and by pushing up with their central midfielder when the ball was played by their full-backs inside towards Berg (as you see in the image below).

Their offensive midfielders challenged Tromsø defensive line with well-timed deep runs, especially when the ball reached their full-backs in high position (see image below).

Out of possession, they set up in a 1-4-4-2 formation with their right winger Isak Dybvik Määttä joining Høgh at the top.

Tromsø, coached by Jørgen Vik in 1-3-5-2 formation, also showed confidence in their build up both when starting from goal-kicks and during open play. Their midfielders David Edvardsson and Ruben Yttergård Jenssen positioned themselves behind the first line of Bodø’s high pressure forcing the opposition front two to stay tight (image below) and finding space on the outside.

Their talented offensive midfielder Jens Hjertø-Dahl (born 2005) and their striker Erlien occupied the half-spaces higher up the pitch (forcing Bodo’s midfield to stay narrow as by image below) and were ready to run behind the opposition defensive line as the ball was played from their defenders to their wing-backs.

Out of possession, they defended in a compact and organized 1-5-3-2 formation conceding only one shot on target during the entire match apart from the penalty which Høgh converted by bringing Bodø temporarily in front.
