In the amazing atmosphere of the Brann Stadion in Bergen (the second-largest city of Norway), SK Brann defeated Viking FK with the result of 3-1 and shortened the distance from the first place to 6 points with one match in hands.

SK Brann, coached by the Icelandic Freyr Alexandersson, adopted a 1-4-3-3 formation in possession with a deep playmaker, the two 8’s in the half-spaces and wide wingers (see image below). They tried to isolate their wingers in 1v1 situations against the opposition full-backs by switching the play, especially towards their right side where their right winger Mathisen challenged the opposition left-back Auklend heavily with his speed.

Out of possession they defended in a compact medium block in a 1-4-4-2 shape (see image below) against Viking’s 1-4-3-3 (see image below).

Viking FK, coached by Morten Jensen, created a numerical superiority in their build up against the opposition front two by dropping their central midfielder Joe Bell between their two centre-backs (see image below).

SK Brann ended the first half 2-0 by a shot from outside the penalty box from their left-back Soltvedt assisted by Mathisen and a header by Japhet Sery Larsen served by a corner delivered by the same Soltvedt.

During the 2nd half Viking changed formation to 1-3-5-2 in possession and they overloaded the opposition back four with their wingbacks, two strikers and two offensive midfielders (see image below).

This did not help them in creating more chances. It was Brann instead which found the third goal again following a corner kick delivered by Soltvedt which developed in another cross by Kornvig to the new signing Sævar Atli Magnússon, who headed the ball with power into the goal.

Viking found their only goal with a volley from outside the penalty box by their defensive midfielder Bell. To mention also the red card in the last minute of the match for Japhet Sery Larsen who made a foul on Hilmir Rafn Mikaelsson (Icelandic striker born 2004) who was running at speed towards the Brann’s goal.
