1. divisjon (Norway) – Sogndal Fotball vs Raufoss IL

Fosshaugane Campus (Sogndal, Norway). Sogndal Fotball faced Raufoss IL in Matchday 9 of the Norwegian 1. divisjon. The game ended with an exciting 2-2 draw.

Both Sogndal Fotball (who played in the Eliteserien, the highest tier of Norwegian club football pyramid back in 2017) and Raufoss IL won their previous games; Sogndal has defeated Egersunds IK away by two goals (0-2), while Raufoss made a 1-0 win over Stabæk Fotball, in the Nammo Stadion (the home stadium of the yellow-blacks).

Sogndal Fotball, under the guidance of its Portuguese coach Luís Pimenta (who formerly managed Norway’s youth international teams between U17 and U20 levels), started the game in 4-1-3-2 formation. In defending / out of possession, other shapes (like 5-3-2 or 4-3-3) were also detectable. During the first half, the team demonstrated dominance in terms of ball possession, and a high intensity and determined offensive play was in operation. They tried to regain the possession immediately when the ball was lost. In attack they were frequently looking for the two strikers (Sebastian Pedersen and Oliver Hintsa) with long balls.

Raufoss IL, led by its English coach Tom Dent, opted for a 4-3-3 formation. Team captain (and former player of the opposition team Sogndal) Ole Amund Sveen played in the “Number 6” position, while Tromsø IL loanee Elias Aarflot was alone striker, waiting for quality support through the offensive play. Decent team cohesion was visible, in addition to a good team character; they were able to present a comeback from one goal down, within few minutes (second half). Despite Jan Inge Lynum (who started the match as central midfielder and ended it as right-back) has long-throwing ability, it was rarely in use.

The opening goal of the game came up in the extra-time of the first half, when Sogndal Fotball striker Oliver Hintsa found the opposition net by his header (1-0). In the 52nd minute, Ole Amund Sveen of Raufoss IL, scored an equalizer, and as he formerly played for Sogndal, didn’t celebrate the hit (1-1). Four minutes later, the advantage was with Raufoss: Elias Aarflot has reacted well to an opposition mistake (1-2). In the 64th minute, Sebastian Pedersen rattled the net, by a ball bounced back off the guest team’s goalkeeper (Anders Klemensson), after a great save (2-2).
