In a match with many goals and chances, Bryne deservedly won the dispute showing higher quality in the final third and a better control on the ball throughout the match. Frederikstad fought until the end and scored the last goal closing the game on the result of 4-3 for the home team.
Strong start of the match for Bryne, coached by Ole Kevin Knappen, in a 1-4-4-2 formation both in and out of possession. They scored their first goal with the Portuguese striker Moreira after 20 seconds from the referee’s whistle after a well-timed penetrative run served by Scriven with a precise through pass.

Moreira (with a past in FC Porto Academy) repeated himself in the 12th minute of the match by running behind the opposition defensive line to create the 2nd goal for his team (own goal by the Fredrikstad defender Skaret who tried to block Moreira’s cross in the 6-yard box).

Fredrikstad, coached by Andreas Hagen in a 1-3-5-2 formation, played often direct towards their two tall strikers Holten and Sørløkk and was dangerous on set pieces (one of their ‘weapons’ were Eid long throw-ins). Their first two goals which led them to even the result in the first half (2-2) came indeed on a direct free-kick and after direct play. Out of possession they defended in a 1-5-4-1 low block (see image below) and had great difficulties in dealing with the opposition strikers mobility.

In the second half, Bryne capitalized on two opposition’s ball losses in their own half by scoring the third and the fourth goal in the 72nd and 74th minute of the match respectively with Bojadzic and Strunck. Frederikstad shortened the distance with Benjamin Faraas (born 2005) who entered the field in the 85th minute and scored in the 88th minute of the match with a finish from close range.
Here the player who stood out in this match:
Duarte Moreira (Bryne FK), striker born 2001.
Duarte is a mobile striker who can attack the back space with direct and well-timed runs as he demonstrated in the first three goals (1 goal, 1 assist and 1 own-goal caused). He showed great ball striking with both feet and the ability to get the ball quickly out of his feet before shooting; he hit the bar with a shot from inside the box with his left foot and forced the opposition goalkeeper to a great save with a shot from long distance by his right foot (dominant foot). He had another good chance by a header from close range after positioning himself on the ‘blind side’ of his opponent demonstrating good reading of the space in the penalty box.
He is ready for a mid-table team in the Danish Superligaen and he has potential to reach even higher in the long-term; Portugal, Spain and Italy would be a good fit for his style of play.
