Back to March, when FC Hegelmann faced FA Šiauliai in Matchday 3 of Lithuanian A Lyga season 2025. “Raudondvario stadionas” was the venue of the match, which ended with a one goal win for the home team (1-0).

Last season’s (A Lyga 2024) silver medalists FC Hegelmann started the new competition with one defeat (2-0 against FK Banga Gargždai away) and one win (2-1 vs FK Panevėžys at home); FA Šiauliai on the other side, who finished as 7th placed back in the previous A Lyga season, has collected four points in its first two games (1-3 win against FK Panevėžys away and a 2-2 draw vs DFK Dainava at home) – so the pre-match predictions indicated a thrilling but close encounter.

FC Hegelmann, under its coach Andrius Skerla, started the game in 4-2-3-1 formation, which was a 5-4-1 shape (in defending) in the last period of the game, as focusing on to keep the one goal lead. The team was able to demonstrate convincing and dominating presence at the aerial challenges / aerial play. Some great coach decisions, like sending two agile and dynamic wingers / wide midfielders (Donatas Kazlauskas & Romanian Patrick Popescu) to the pitch, for the second part of the last 45 minutes, should be also highlighted.

FA Šiauliai, led by its Latvian coach Dainis Kazakevičs, also decided to start this clash in 4-2-3-1 formation, which was often turned to be a 4-4-2 shape (out of possession), as attacking midfielder Daniel Romanovskij moved up, to the “Number 9” position. FA Šiauliai was able to show tenacity and resilience when they were under (physical) pressure; goalkeeper (and team captain) Gustas Baliutavičius performance needs to be mentioned, as performing several important saves and blocks through the game.

The game’s only one (and decisive) goal came up in the 47th minute, when FC Hegelmann‘s Serbian centre-back, Nikola Đorić found the opposition net by his header, which was assisted by the right-footed cross of Esmilis Kaušinis (1-0).

After ten league matches of the A Lyga season 2025, FC Hegelmann is on the top of the table with 21 points collected, while FA Šiauliai is looking forward to the next round from the 5th position, with its 15 points.
