Rimnersvallen (Uddevalla, Sweden). IK Oddevold had faceoff against GIF Sundsvall in Matchday 5 of the Swedish second tier (Superettan), which ended with a 1-2 win for the guests.

In the previous round (Matchday 4), home side IK Oddevold travelled to Falkenbergs FF (2-2), while GIF Sundsvall hosted its league clash against Landskrona BoIS (1-2).

IK Oddevold in this game, under the guidance of coach Rikard Nilsson, opted for 5-3-2 / 3-5-2 formations in possession, which were often shaped to 5-4-1, when they were off the ball. In the first half of the match, they put focus on slowing down the tempo, and on building up the play with slow but safe short passes. Making long throws from both flank to create some trouble inside or around the opposition box served as an important tactical element for them too.

GIF Sundsvall on the away side, led by its Turkish-Finnish coach Erol Ates, started the game in 4-4-2 formation, which was a 5-4-1 shape in defending / out of possession, with Yacqub Finey up front. The team was able to demonstrate good level of pressing intensity on the opposition half but also could adapt to the tempo created by the opposition. It was delighting to see how the attacking / supporting players were involved into great combinations through the offense.

The first goal of the game came up in the 34th minute, when GIF Sundsvall attacker Yacqub Finey found the net by his left-footed shot (0-1). Still in the first period (42nd minute), Ludvig Svanberg doubled Sundsvall’s lead by his excellent header, with a ball arrived from the corner of Tunisian-Swedish right-back Monir Jelassi (0-2). In the 63rd minute, Oscar Iglicar Berntsson (IK Oddevold) narrowed the gap to one goal by his head shot (which was assisted by a great head pass of Erik Hedenquist) but no more hits were scored in the clash (1-2).

In the next round (Matchday 6), IK Oddevold will travel to Sandvikens IF, while GIF Sundsvall will face Utsiktens BK, at Sundsvall’s home stadium.
