Lerkendal Stadion (Trondheim, Norway). Eliteserien (Norway’s highest league) record champions Rosenborg BK hosted a game of Matchday 2, against the 2024 Norwegian Football Cup winners Fredrikstad FK. The match ended with a 1-0 win for the home side.

Both the home team Rosenborg BK and the guests Fredrikstad FK won their opening games in the Eliteserien season 2025; RBK secured a 1-2 away win against Strømsgodset IF, while FFK achieved a very confident 3-0 home win over last season’s silver medalists (and 2025/26 UEFA Champions League qualification participants) SK Brann.

Rosenborg BK, under its Swedish coach Alfred Johansson, started this clash in 4-3-3 formation, which changed to 4-4-2 while out of possession (especially in the second half). The team created several significant chances through the match; a highly confident and fluid game, from the building up to the finish was presented. The play and presence of the two quick and technically gifted wingers (Emil Konradsen Ceïde on the left, and Marius Broholm on the right) were absolutely massive boost for RBK’s offense; while the midfield trio (including Iver Fossum, Sverre Nypan and Finnish Santeri Väänänen) gave stability and creativity to the team.

(An example for RBK’s well organized 4-4-2 defensive system, through the second part of the game)
Fredrikstad FK, led by Andreas Hagen, opted for a 3-5-2 shape, which switched to 5-3-2 when the team was out of possession; this 5-3-2 system in defending was kept for both halves of the clash. Despite of RBK’s pressure, the team demonstrated resilience and strength. The long throw-ins of right midfielder Daniel Eid (from both sides) turned to be dangerous; while the long free-kicks (taken by Danish player Oskar Øhlenschlæger) were always sent into the opposition box, to make some trouble there. It was interesting to see that team captain (and Fredrikstad born player) Simen Rafn hosted an ‘improvised’ team talk after the conceded goal.

(FFK defending in 5-3-2, in two different periods of the game)
The game’s only one goal came up in the 39th minute, when RBK‘s talented midfielder Sverre Nypan found the net, by a pass of right winger Marius Broholm (1-0, first image below).
In the 59th minute, FFK had a big chance by penalty kick to equalize the score, but Rosenborg’s goalkeeper Sander Tangvik made a brilliant save (second image below) – so for the final result, the one goal difference remained (1-0).

Here is the player who stood out in this match:
Sverre Nypan (Rosenborg BK), central midfielder born 2006.
Sverre is one of RBK’s brightest talents and already a well known name worldwide. Besides he scored the game’s only one (and decisive) goal, demonstrated several creative and progressive movements both on and off the ball, hand in hand with his exceptional abilities. Sverre’s high game intelligence and playmaking skills gave extra stability for the team, in addition to his tenacity and pressure resilience.
