AFC U20 Asian Cup – Syria vs Thailand

In a captivating match at the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup hosted by China, Syria’s U20 national team faced Thailand U20 at the Longhua Cultural and Sports Centre Stadium in Shenzhen. The game concluded with a 2-2 draw, with both teams displaying remarkable skills and determination.

Syria, led by its national coach Mohammad Kwid, played mainly in 4-3-3 formation; the team showcased resilience and tactical prowess, aiming to emulate the success of the senior national team. Syria demonstrated rather strategic play, with key moments including a goal by Mohammad Al-Mustafa, assisted by Anas Dahhan.

On the opposition side, Thailand, under the guidance of Brazilian national coach Emerson Pereira, opted for a 3-4-3 formation; this shape was a perfect match for the team expression and the players’ abilities, letting them to organize the play with quick activities and counteractions. Thailand responded dynamically, with notable substitutions and tactical adjustments that kept the match competitive.

Here the players who stood out in this match:

Mahmoud Warda (Syria / Tishreen SC), wing-back born 2007.

Mahmoud had a good game playing as wing-back, contributing both at the offense and defense; made several good passes forward, hand in hand with progressive runs.

Ahmad Ali Soufi (Syria / Hutteen SC), attacking midfielder born 2005.

Ahmad proved that he has great vision, and was able to control his areas by his presence in addition to his special passes.

Phongsakorn Sangkasopha (Thailand / Ratchaburi FC), attacking midfielder/centre-forward born 2006.

Phongsakorn was the most valuable player in this match in my opinion. He played as an attacking midfielder and as a center-forward; he was involved in good combinations where he performed effectively. He showed also great creativity and vision.

To FOLLOW also Syria centre-forward Anas Dahhan (2006, Al-Ahli SC) and goalkeeper Maksim Sarraf (2005, currently free agent); and Thailand central midfielder Thanakrit Chotmuangpak (2006, Buriram United) and left winger/attacking midfielder Thanawut Phochai (2005, Nongbua FC).
