Marijampolės futbolo arenos maniežas (Marijampolė, Lithuania). Alytus based team DFK Dainava faced FC Džiugas Telšiai in the opening match of A Lyga 2025 Matchday 3, in an indoor environment. The thrilling encounter ended with the win of FC Džiugas Telšiai, by the final score 0-2.

During the previous round of the Lithuanian highest football level, DFK Dainava collected a valuable point against FA Šiauliai away, while FC Džiugas Telšiai on the other side won by 2-1 (away) over FK Kauno Žalgiris – which is the last A Lyga season’s bronze medalist team.
DFK Dainava, under its Belarusian coach Sergey Kuznetsov, started the clash in 5-3-2 formation, which was often changed to a 4-1-3-2 shape, as their centre-back Oskaras Lukošiūnas moved one row up, to the “Number 6” position. The team’s offensive tactics were primarily built on the two mobile strikers up front, Japanese Takumi Hiruma and Polish Krystian Okoniewski.
FC Džiugas Telšiai, led by its local born coach Andrius Lipskis, decided to start the match in 4-2-3-1 shape, which was often formed to 2-4-4, during the build-up / offensive phases. Their right chain was operated as “inverted”, as both the RB (Vyacheslav Kulbachuk) and the RW (Deitonas Vinckus) are basically left-footed – and their original positions are also on the left side.

The game’s first goal came up in the 34th minute, when FC Džiugas Telšiai‘s Armenian-Latvian striker Aram Baghdasaryan (about whom you can read more in this article) scored the leading goal, by a ball arrived in the form of an excellent cross of the winger Deitonas Vinckus (0-1). Despite of DFK Dainava‘s elevated offensive play, the Telšiai team handled the pressure well, and in the 87th minute, they secured the win by the hit of Japanese substitution player Hirotaka Yamada (0-2) – ultimately collecting all the three points.

In this article we will flag only one player per team who ‘stood out’ in this match (if you are interested in finding out about the other talents in this game you can buy our full match report):
Krystian Okoniewski (DFK Dainava), striker born 2005.
Krystian, Polish striker of the team, demonstrated great mobility both in the final third and in the midfield zone, as well as excellent tenacity and resilience under the physical contacts or in physical challenges. Played as “Target man”; was able to gain (or regain) the possession by well-timed and solid (normal) tackles in the midfield area. Despite of he didn’t hit the net, his presence inside/around the opposition box meant to be a serious threat for the opposing team.
Vyacheslav Kulbachuk (FC Džiugas Telšiai), full-back/wing-back born 2004.
Vyacheslav, Ukrainian player who recently arrived from Hungarian side Budapest Honvéd FC, played on the right flank as right-back despite of his original position is on the left. Was able to enforce his dominance in the aerial duels as well as at the physical challenges; dribbled with the ball confidently during attacks. The inverted role didn’t make him any trouble; his offensive/supportive mind hand in hand with his versatility were definitely massive boost for the team.
