In a balanced match where both teams demonstrated a solid defensive organization the final result (0-0) reflected the lack of dangerous offensive actions. This did not stop the players from showcasing their talent and qualities both on and off the ball.
Silkeborg coached by Kim Andersen in a 4-3-3 formation adopted a compact defensive mid-block with a ‘narrow’ front three which resembled the shape of a ‘Christmas three’ (as you can see from the image below).

In possession they pushed their full-backs in high position and build up mainly with their centre-backs and their defensive midfielder, who dropped at times between the two CBs (as you can see in the draw below). Their wingers made density in the middle to ‘occupy’ the opposition centre-backs. They progressed through the thirds by playing around the opposition defensive shape.

FC Nordsjælland coached by Sune Jensen in a 3-4-3 formation dominated the ball possession in the first half of the match but could not break through the opposition defensive organization to create significant chances. One of the main tools used to get behind the opposition back four was to play early balls both from their defenders and their central midfielders. The main ‘runners’ were the right wing-back Jonathan Krath and the striker Markus Seim-Monsen (who sprints between the two central defenders in the image below).

We describe more in details only one player per team who ‘stood out’ in this match (if you are interested in finding out about the other talents in this game you can buy our full match report):
William Pedersen (Silkeborg), left-back born 2007.
William is an offensive minded full-back who possess great agility with the ball and speed. Notable is his ability to change direction with the ball to beat his opponents pressure. Supported the attack with well-timed forward runs and delivered dangerous crosses into the 6-yard box. Showed also fast ball progressions to exploit space with the ball. Able to read and intercept long passes.
William is a ‘modern’ type of full-back who fits perfectly offensive styles of play. His potential is big considering his speed and technical attributes. Combining this with some work on his physical structure he can secure a first team spot in the next 2 years. In the long-term Italy, Spain and England could be suitable for his skill set.
Malte Heyde (FCN), central midfielder born 2007.
Malte is a tall and robust central midfielder who has great spatial awareness and vision. Malte ability to find options between the lines or in the back space within short time available is outstanding. Great passing range and technique. Strong personality which makes him the captain of his team. Responsible for the delivery of his team offensive set pieces, he demonstrated good ball striking.
Malte physical and mental readiness together with his strong ‘basics’ makes me predict a debut in Superliga before the summer. In the medium-term the Netherlands (top 3) and Ligue 1 in France could be leagues which could help him develop further.
