Eesti Superkarikas 2025 (Estonia, Supercup) – FCI Levadia Tallinn vs Nõmme Kalju FC

Estonian Supercup 2025, in Viljandi Männimäe Jalgpallihall. The 2024 Meistriliiga champions FCI Levadia Tallinn faced Nõmme Kalju FC, the silver medalist team of the competition. After this thrilling encounter, Levadia players could lift the trophy high – by winning the clash 3-2.

Although FCI Levadia Tallinn has won both the Estonian Meistriliiga and Eesti Karikas (Estonian Cup) in 2024, the title of Estonian Supercup (called: Superkarikas) winner did not automatically come to them – they had to beat Nõmme Kalju FC for this trophy. Levadia, previously won the Supercup back in 2022 (after beating FC Flora Tallinn on penalties); while Nõmme Kalju on the other hand, achieved the title back in 2019 – defeating its current opponent Levadia, by the score of 3-2.

FCI Levadia Tallinn, under its Spanish coach Curro Torres, started the game in 4-2-3-1. They tried to dominate the play, immediately after the kick-off; the players mobility and tactical adaptability allowed them to be a continuous threat in the final third. Their individual qualities, especially in terms of dynamism, technique and finishing, also gave them significant advantages throughout the entire match. They were able to turn the opposing team’s ball losses and unsuccessful attacks into swift counterattacks.

Nõmme Kalju FC, under the guidance of Nikita Andreev, decided to start the clash in a 4-3-3 ‘attacking’ reminiscent shape. It was visible in the early minutes, that they want to practice surprise on Levadia players, by pressing them with a good intensity on their half, and also to avoid playing a ‘subordinate’ role during the 90 minutes of the match. Making a comeback from two goals down with which they could equalize the score, demonstrated the team’s strong will power, with keeping the main tactical elements, as well as the level of the mood and motivation.

The game’s first goal came up in the 17th minute, when the right-footed shot of Richie Musaba (from 16 metres) found the opposing net (1-0). The great long pass of Michael Schjønning-Larsen which turned into assist for this goal should also be highlighted. Only three minutes later, Levadia doubled its lead: Nigerian striker Ahmad Gero was the goal scorer, after a ball rebounded by Nõmme Kalju‘s goalkeeper Maksim Pavlov (2-0). In the 44th minute, the difference was reduced to one, as Nikita Ivanov scored a wonderful goal by his right-footed long shot (2-1). The consolation goal of Nõmme Kalju scored in the last minutes of the first half definitely gave boost and extra motivation for the players; in the 55th minute, Brazilian winger Guilherme Smith has placed the ball to Levadia’s net, by a confident left-footed low shot (2-2). The last (and decisive) hit arrived in the 83rd minute, when Gambian attacker Bubacarr Tambedou scored by a brilliant right-footed volley (3-2).

In this article we will describe more in details only one player per team who ‘stood out’ in this match (if you are interested in finding out about the other talents in this game you can buy our full match report):

Enock Otoo (FCI Levadia Tallinn), attacking midfielder/left winger born 2004.

Enock, started the game in the left winger position but also was visible playing as “Number 10”, in some match situations and actions. By using his rapidity and energy, he was able to speed up the play, as well as to change its fluidity to a higher level. Technically a highly gifted one; controls the ball with great elegance. Thanks to his intensive pressing play, was able to confuse the opposing defenders and also to regain the possession in the offensive zone. Demonstrated excellent creativity at playmaking/progressive passing play in the final third. His agility and quickness were quite useful for him to solve the pressed situations, even inside tight spaces. His abilities and style strongly fits tactics which contain possibilities for counter-attacking.

Check out this previous article from the FCI Levadia Tallinn (friendly) match vs Tartu JK Tammeka, to read my conclusions on Enock.

Guilherme Smith (Nõmme Kalju FC), right winger born 2003.

Guilherme, Brazilian winger of the team, played on the right flank through the entire match. He has excellent pace and acceleration on the ball; demonstrated very good change of his tempo. Fairly good at dribbling; uses his rapidity and technique advantageously and effectively, when faces his opponents in offensive 1v1 situations. Meant to be a serious threat with starting to dribble from the wing to the middle. Made himself available with his off the ball movements, during the attacks. Showed great creativity and bravery at his progressive passes. Didn’t neglect his duties, to run back to support the defense. Demonstrated also good decision-making (on ball) in the final third. Scored an equalizing goal in the 55th minute, by left foot (2-2).
