Eliteserien (Norway) – Rosenborg BK vs Molde FK

In the beginning of September at Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim Rosenborg hosted Molde for a match in the Norwegian top division Eliteserien, both teams lining up in variations of the 4-3-3 formation.

Rosenborg played a very tactically fluid system. At half-time they took out CM Santeri Väänänen and put the first half, right winger Marius Broholm as a deep lying playmaker and shifted their young left winger Jesper Reitan-Sunde to RW.

The fullback on the right Adrian Pereira would sometimes inverts too. The young Rosenborg team played some fluid exciting football.

(An example of nr 19 right-back Pereira inverting his position)

Molde played a formation where the fullbacks were allowed to push up very high in and out of possession. The Molde right hand side lost their battle. Rosenborg deservedly won the game by outplaying their opponents.

Best potential players:

Marius Broholm (Rosenborg), right winger and center midfielder born 2004.

He has good drive and close control, and is a good crosser. He has a good stature, which is very Messi-like. He excels in combination play and doesn’t mind dropping deep. In the second half, he played in a deep-lying midfield role, very impressive for him to play 2 very different roles and both to a very high level. Tactical understanding and game IQ is very much present. Could be accused of being slightly too one-footed, but that can be worked on.

Noah Jean Holm (Rosenborg) striker born 2001.

He plays very similarly to Harry Kane or ex Feyenoord’s and now Milan striker Giménez.

He makes good runs in the box with excellent timing. He is strong on headers and effective in the air with flick-ons. At times, he drops deep and helps spread play to the wingers. He gets punished harshly by referees due to his large size.

Jesper Reitan-Sunde (Rosenborg), left and right winger born 2006.

Jesper is very fast, a strong 1v1 challenger, and does very good defensive work. He has quick feet and excels in 1v1 situations when isolated. However, his decision-making needs improvement, particularly in knowing when to dribble, release, or hold the ball. He has a very small frame, although it will likely fill out with age.

I don’t believe Reitan-Sunde can reach the very top, as his current level seems tied to his very high speed, suggesting he may be an early developer. But in case his decision making can be improved he would be interesting to look at for a bigger club. In the mold of a young Theo Walcott, albeit not the same level.

Albert Posiadala (Molde FK), goalkeeper born 2003.

Posiadala has a good stature and decent footwork. He is very proactive, frequently claiming the ball and stepping out to meet situations. His judgment of when to take such actions is decent, and he takes calculated risks in build-up play.

However, being so proactive inevitably leads to mistakes. For a young goalkeeper, he is slightly “heavy” in his movements and not particularly nimble despite his slim build. He shows insecurity on crosses, tends to have poor catching technique, and tends to punch the ball when he could catch it.
But for his young age he shows very great promise.

To FOLLOW also Rosenborg goalkeeper Sander Tangvik (2002), centre-back Mikkel Conradsen Ceide (2001) and left winger Emil Conradsen Ceide (2001); and Molde striker Ola Brynhildsen (1999).
