In a match hard to forget – placement final of the U17 Scandinavian Championship back in November 2024; Vålerenga Fotball secured a dramatic 8-7 victory on penalties against IFK Göteborg after a hard-fought match. Both teams demonstrated their talent and determination, showcasing quality play.

Vålerenga Fotball, led by Trond Fredriksen, edged out their Swedish opponents to claim the win in a game that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Both teams started the clash in a ‘classical’ 4-3-3 formation. IFK Göteborg, under the guidance of Loke Grahn, was being slightly more direct in their play, when they had the opportunity to go forward. Vålerenga had short quick passing combinations hand in hand with attacking aggressively – but most times with shorter passes and with a ‘pass-and-move’ type of play. The teams were similar in some phases of the game, ending in a party for attacking and creative football.
The penalty shootout became a test of nerves and precision, and Vålerenga ultimately held their composure to emerge victorious with an 8-7 win.

(Vålerenga players celebrating – Nikola Udovicic scored the deciding hit by the last penalty of the shootout)
The best potential players in my opinion:
Sebastian Berggren (IFK Göteborg), attacking midfielder/forward born 2008.
Sebastian had a good and solid performance, his performance improved throughout the game and was a key player of the team’s attacking section.
Oliver Månsson (IFK Göteborg), central midfielder born 2009.
Another standout player from the P17 Allsvenskan Södra 2024 season, demonstrating quality skills and great tactical awareness; had good control and vision with his passes – it was not the optimal match for him but he handled its challenges really well.
Abdoulie Jatta (Vålerenga Fotball), left winger born 2009.
A dynamic left winger, representing Norway at U15 level. His speed and creativity made him a constant threat on the flanks.
Wahib Fadil (Vålerenga Fotball), striker born 2008.
A clinical striker born 2008, holding dual citizenship for Norway and Morocco; displayed a natural goal-scoring instinct, did many spectacular and promising attacking combinations, beside scoring.
Syver Bjørkum Aasarød (Vålerenga Fotball), right-back born 2009.
A promising and mature right-back; his composure and defensive reliability stood out despite of his young age.
To FOLLOW also IFK Göteborg player Anton Hagman (2007) and Vålerenga player Gabriel Opsahl (2008).
