U17 Scandinavian Championship – FC Midtjylland (Denmark) vs Viking FK (Norway)

In an exciting clash at the “U17 Skandinaviska Mästerskapen”, FC Midtjylland triumphed 1-0 over Viking FK, showcasing their unique approach to football that blends the innovation of ‘Moneyball’ with the precision of German football tactics.

FC Midtjylland, under the guidance of head coach Claus Therkildsen, started in 4-4-2 formation. Their focus on quick, fast-paced play and well-executed set pieces allowed them to break down Viking FK’s defense with sharp, attacking movements. Midtjylland was able to dominate possession and control the tempo of the game, easily transitioning to a 4-3-3 to tighten their control in the midfield.

Viking FK, under the leadership of Dennis Deleuran, started to play a 4-3-3 often switching to a 4-4-2, to bring more stability and creativity into the midfield during transitions. While rooted in the traditions of forward-direction play and player freedom, the emphasis was now on tactical flexibility and creating opportunities with a fast counter-attacking game. Despite their resilience, Viking FK struggled to find the back of the net, ultimately falling short in a tightly contested match.

The best potential players in my opinion:

Magne Kristensen (FC Midtjylland), centre-back born in 2008.

A solid central defender, Kristensen, stands out for his excellent vision and positional play. His ability to read the game and distribute passes effectively from the back made him a key figure in Midtjylland’s well-structured defense. Kristensen’s tactical awareness allowed him to maintain control of the game from deep, often dictating play as he stepped out from defense.

Jens Emil Munk (FC Midtjylland), defensive midfielder born in 2008.

As classical “Regista” style deep-lying midfielder, Munk was the engine of Viking FK’s midfield. He excelled at dictating tempo, with an impressive ability to deliver precise passes and create play from deep positions. Munk’s vision and technical abilities allowed him to control the flow of the game, setting the foundation for Viking FK’s attacking moves.

Jens Koll-Frafjord (Viking FK), attacking midfielder born in 2008.

Koll-Frafjord is an attacking midfielder with an exceptional understanding of the game and excellent vision. His ability to find space between the lines and deliver incisive passes made him a threat going forward. Koll-Frafjord’s creativity in the final third added a dynamic edge to Viking FK’s offensive play, making him ‘one to watch’ for the future.

To FOLLOW also:

Alberto Velásquez (FC Midtjylland), centre-forward born in 2008.

As a skilled playmaker with fantastic vision and technique, Velásquez played a key role in linking the midfield to the attack. His decision-making and ability to unlock defenses made him a vital asset for Midtjylland’s offensive play.

Alexander Máni Gudjónsson (FC Midtjylland), central midfielder born in 2009.

Gudjónsson is a strong central midfielder who stands out for his ability to break up opposition attacks and maintain possession under pressure. His tactical discipline and composure made him a key part of Midtjylland’s midfield structure.

Elias Dahman (Viking FK), winger/forward born in 2007.

Dahman is a promising attacker with a keen eye for goal and with abilities to create space in tight areas. His movements off the ball and sharp finishing skills made him a key attacking threat for Viking FK.

Dennis Gjøse Monsvik (Viking FK), central midfielder born in 2008.

A central midfielder who excelled in dictating the game’s tempo; Monsvik brought stability and creativity to Midtjylland’s midfield. His ability to break lines with passes and control possession made him a crucial figure for the Danish side.
