IF Brommapojkarna secured a 3-1 win against its Norwegian opponent Viking FK in the U17 Scandinavian Championship.

The U17 Scandinavian Championship delivered another thrilling match as Swedish club IF Brommapojkarna clashed with Norwegian side Viking FK in a tactical showdown that showcased the best of youth football in the region. Brommapojkarna’s dynamic 4-3-3 formation proved too strong for Viking’s structured 4-4-2 setup, with the Swedish team earning a well-deserved 3-1 victory.
The managerial battle between two of Scandinavia’s promising coaches added an intriguing layer to the match.
Dennis Deleuran, coach of Viking FK, decided to send his players onto the pitch in a 4-4-2 shape. This formation reflected his tactical philosophy of controlling central spaces and transitioning quickly. Despite the loss, Viking’s resilience and ability to counterattack showcased Deleuran’s coaching acumen. The focus was on defensive solidity and rapid counterattacks, good educated players that could keep the possession of the ball too. The Norway side’s narrow setup aimed to close the central areas, forcing Brommapojkarna to play around them. While effective in spells, Viking struggled to cope with Brommapojkarna’s width and relentless pressure.
Magnus Pålsson, leading the Swedish team IF Brommapojkarna, started the clash in 4-3-3 formation. Known for his attacking mindset, Pålsson’s system exemplified his belief in proactive football. His in-game adjustments, particularly the fullbacks’ higher positioning in the second half, were pivotal in breaking Viking FK’s defensive lines. Their wingers stretched Viking’s defense, while a composed midfield trio dictated the tempo. The strategy paid dividends early, with Brommapojkarna’s fluid attacking play creating several dangerous opportunities. Brommapojkarna somethimes went to a 2-5-3 in pressure and had some influence of man-marking in high up in the pitch, which was quite interesting to watch.
The game’s first goal came in the 28th minute when Brommapojkarna’s left winger cut inside to curl a stunning shot into the top corner. Viking responded in the 35th minute with a textbook counterattack, leveling the score at 1-1 before the break.
In the second half, Brommapojkarna’s tactical adjustments turned the tide. Their fullbacks pushed higher up the pitch, pinning Viking’s wide players back and creating overloads. This shift led to two goals in the 62nd and 75th minutes, sealing the 3-1 victory. Viking fought hard but couldn’t break the Swedes’ defensive structure as the clock wound down.
