U19 Ligaen (Denmark) – Lyngby BK vs AC Horsens

In a match full of goals and emotions (5-3 the final result), Lyngby comeback proved the home team offensive power.

Lyngby, coached by Piotr Haren in a 4-3-3 formation, was effective in attacking the opposition back space. They scored the first three goals by exploiting the gaps within Horsens defensive line with well-timed runs.

Horsens, led by Claus Troelsen (caretaker manager last season in the first team), played in a 3-4-3 formation in possession with their striker dropping to pick up one of the opposition midfielders out of possession. Interesting was their man-marking approach to match the opposition offensive shape.

The match of potential players ended with Lyngby winning 2-1!

Mathias Kaarsbo (LBK), offensive midfielder born in 2006.

Mathias scored the first goal for Lyngby with a fantastic deep run which finished with a precise shot towards the far bottom corner of the goal. He supported his team attacks by running in the box and showed outstanding spatial awareness when receiving under pressure. Great passing skills and speed of thoughts and actions. Responsible for his team offensive set pieces, he demonstrated also excellent ball striking.

Mathias would greatly benefit from being exposed to first team football soon to develop his defensive and duel play. You can find my conclusions on him in this previous article.

Kristian Jašović (LBK), offensive winger born in 2007.

Kristian is a fast winger strong in attacking 1v1 and shooting. His best skill that impressed me in this match was his ability to ‘fix’ his opponent by controlling the tempo of his dribbling and to quickly ‘shift’ with the ball to shoot, as in the goal he scored to secure his team victory (shot from outside the box). He showed also a good spatial awareness by combining with his first touch to isolate his opponents in counterattacks.

More playing time at U19 level can fasten his development for the reasons already mentioned in this previous article on Lyngby match vs OB.

Anton Mandrup (ACH), left wingback born in 2008.

Anton played only 34 minutes but this time was enough for him to show his qualities. His best action was when he anticipated the play to intercept a switch of play and controlled the ball with his chest before progressing with the ball to find his team mate with a precise long pass. In this moment he showed great game reading skills, technique and maturity for his age (he was the youngest player in this match). Brave in aerial duels and tackes.

Anton looked comfortable playing at U19 level although he was in some cases three years younger than his opponents. A full season playing regularly in this team will help him transitioning in the first team next season with the right attitude and confidence.

To FOLLOW also Lyngby right-back Valdemar Lykke (2007), centre-back Malthe Henriksen (2006), defensive midfielder Jonathan Otoa (2006) and left footed right winger Rasmus Flügge (2007); and Horsens centre-backs Philip Rolke and Emmanuel Moungam (both born in 2006).
