Valmiera was facing last season’s champions BFC Daugavpils in the Valmieras Olimpiskais centrs. With both teams placed in the middle of the table this match unfolded as an exciting and hard fight to collect all the three points.

Valmiera FC, coached by Mārcis Ērglis (who is also a player of Nākotnes Līga club FK Smiltene/BJSS) decided to start the match in a formation of 4-2-3-1. They tried to set up and build up the play quickly by lot of swift movements and runs with mixing easy and quick passes. In the second half, being one goal down, the focus was on to strengthen the offense, so they often shaped the formation to a 2-3-5 (as by image below) on possession.

BFC Daugavpils, as reigning champions of the competition, under the guidance of coach Jānis Bovins, started the play in 4-4-2 – with forming into various shapes in practice to which his players could adapt easily. As all sections (defense – midfield – offense) were organized well, they could play their game in all phases confidently. Scoring the leading goal was also a key factor in the 0-2 win; as you can see in the image below, centre-back Rainers Urujevs in the first goal found enough space and played himself unmarked inside the box – so the only task he had to do was to make an accurate header.

Despite of BFC Daugavpils won the game by two goals, Valmiera FC won the clash of the ‘best potential players’ by two:
Markuss Eduards Blaubergs (Valmiera FC), left midfielder born in 2008.
Markuss Eduards is a talented player with good technical readiness on the ball; was mobile enough and played confidently even when he had to leave his original position and to play on the other flank or in the middle. Showed his creativity with his passes and in the build up phase, plus his presence was also useful when he participated in combinations around the opposition box. With demonstrating high level of awareness and bravery, his performance can be highlighted as one of the best on the pitch.
Ēriks Maurs-Boks (Valmiera FC), defensive midfielder born in 2006.
Ēriks was an important member of the team as the ‘engine’ of the midfield. During the entire game, he had several opportunities to showcase his promising playmaking abilities; often started to organize or build up the play from deep. Thanks to his excellent kicking abilities, he was the main taker of the attacking set pieces, and because of these skills were mixed with bravery, also had several shooting efforts from long distances. The signs of the awareness were visible on his decisions and movements; he was focused on giving quality support from the midfield zone.
To FOLLOW also Valmiera FC right midfielder Rojs Bušs (2008) and left-back Ritvars Krists Zauska (2006); and BFC Daugavpils goalkeeper Jurijs Saveļjevs (2007) and right winger Konstantīns Čemodanovs (2006).
