The last and most important game of the season for both teams. This was the clash for the participation to the Latvia’s highest tier (Virslīga) in the season 2025; as the first leg was a 3-2 away win for JDFS Alberts, Grobiņas SC had to eliminate the difference on the pitch covered by snow of the RTU stadions (Riga).

JDFS Alberts, coached by Arturs Zakreševskis, started this important match in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Despite the lead from the first leg, they didn’t want to play with full defensive focus; it was delighting to see how they pushed on the opposing team’s half and how they really wanted to score the first goal – making their position calmer. They had a very good chance to keep their one goal (aggregate) lead, especially when their goalkeeper, the experienced Germans Māliņš saved the penalty of Deivids Dobrecovs in the 26th minute (as by image below). Until the final whistle, JDFS Alberts was on heavy attacking with creating several dangerous and promising movements, around the opposition box.

Grobiņas SC on the away side, led by Viktors Dobrecovs, started the match in 3-4-2-1. Rodrigo Gaučis was alone striker, who had quality support from one and two rows behind. The team focused on avoiding to leave open areas for the JDFS Alberts players and not letting them too much opportunities to control the play or to validate their tactical ideas. Although they missed a penalty in the middle of the first half, it didn’t demotivate them; with scoring two goals within six minutes, their place was secured in Latvia’s top tier for the next season.

Congratulations for both teams: Grobiņas SC, for keeping its place among Latvia’s best teams; and JDFS Alberts, for the bronze medal in the regular season of Nākotnes Līga (2nd tier) !

The best potential players in my opinion (all from the away team Grobiņas SC):
Rodrigo Gaučis (Grobiņas SC), striker born in 2005.
Rodrigo can be described as the ‘hero’ of this clash. Scored the game’s two goals within few minutes in the first half; played a key role in making a comeback after the lost previous duel. Physically good: tall player who can handle the physical pressure and able to show tenacity while he is involved into physical challenges. He shows a promising offensive mentality and offensive awareness; his aerial play was not only useful when he was on the attacking side but also in defensive set pieces.
Krišjānis Rupeiks (Grobiņas SC), centre-back born in 2007.
As being the youngest starting player on the pitch, Krišjānis had a great opportunity to show to the public how much potential he has. Started and played as RCB; also had duties when it was necessary to leave his original position, plus offered support for the offensive play in some cases. Excellent level of bravery and tenacity were visible in him, especially when peformed sliding moves/tackles to stop his opponent(s) in attacking or when he had to use his body and his strength to keep balance during physical contacts. Technically good; controls and handles the ball nicely. Keeping the opposing team goalless is also an extra point of his performance.
To FOLLOW also JDFS Alberts centre-back Kristers Augusts (2005) and midfielder Markus Prohorenkovs (2005); and Grobiņas SC right-back Rūdolfs Meļķis (2004).
