U17 Ligaen (Denmark) – FC Midtjylland vs Lyngby

Great exploit from the Lyngby U17 squad which after losing the Cup final against Brøndby on penalties two weeks ago in Brønshøj, won against the strong Midtjylland currently 2nd in the table.

A match which was decided in the last 10 mins with Lyngby scoring at the 86th and 92th minute. ‘Golden substitutions’ made by Lyngby head coach Younes Khabtani Pedersen with Di Carlo, Peyman and Frederiksen who had a strong impact in the last part of the match with the last two creating the 4th goal.

Interesting how both teams changed their ‘shapes’ on Midtjylland goal-kicks!

Midtjylland coached by Mathias Rahbek in 1-4-3-3 formation reversed the midfield triangle (1-4-2-3-1); Lyngby in 1-4-2-3-1 in possession adopted a 4-4-2 diamond shape to press high (as by image below).

Midtjylland also ‘ultra aggressive’ on goal-kicks with the front three at the edge of the box, both 8’s locking onto opposition central midfielders and both FBs on the front foot to press the opposition FBs (see below).

Best potential players?! 2-3 for Lyngby!

Malik Pimpong (Midtjylland), striker born in 2008.

Malik was dominant in his duels both on the ground and in the air. He could protect the ball under pressure when receiving back to goal and link up with his team mates with precise passes. Most importantly he was ruthless in the box when the ball dropped on his feet for the goal that put his team ahead. He showed also very good speed when found in open field. Threat with his head on set pieces.

Malik demonstrated that he can be challenged at higher level both physically and technically. Playing regularly in U19 Ligaen from next season would offer him the best conditions to develop.

Lau Overgaard (Midtjylland), centre-back born in 2009.

Good size and defensive positioning in the box, Lau was able to intercept crosses and long balls with his headers but also to direct the ball precisely towards his team mates. Good quality also on the ball where he demonstrated accuracy both in short and long passes and could play out of pressure with great early body preparation which allowed him to play off 1 touch at times.

One more season in U17 to become even more dominant would allow him to develop

Kristian Jašović (Lyngby), offensive winger born in 2007.

Outstanding in attacking 1v1! He could beat his opponents using both sides to deliver dangerous cutback crosses or shoot with his right foot. He scored his team first goal by getting the ball quickly out of his feet to finish. He is unpredictable with the ball at his feet. Created scoring opportunities with accurate inswinging crosses.

Kristian technical/tactical level is way above the average of the league. Competing regularly at U19 level next season can help him developing in dealing with higher physical challenges and prepare him to first team football in Superliga in 1-2 years time.

Tristan Nilsson (Lyngby), centre-back born in 2008.

Intelligent and composed defender with high tactical awareness. Able to read the game to intercept passes and step in front of his opponents. Calm in 1v1 def situations and in playing out from the back. Good technical level, able to break the opposition lines with precise progressive passes.

Tristan is ready for the U19 Ligaen and can benefit from playing regularly in it to become even more dominant in his duels.

Hjalte Froholdt (Lyngby), right-back born in 2008.

Hjalte had a great offensive contribution in the match scoring one goal, making one assist and creating chances by crossing with high level of technique while keeping speed. He made some good runs without the ball to support the attacks. And was sharp in changing direction with the ball to beat his direct opponents.

One more season at U17 level can help him consolidating his defensive positioning and playmaking skills. The potential is big and the way to the first team not too long.

To FOLLOW also Midtjylland centre-back Magne Norn Kristensen, defensive midfielder Daris Catak and left-footed right winger Sebastian Lodberg; and Lyngby offensive winger Rasmus Faurholt Flügge, central midfielder Theo Di Carlo and striker Brink Frederiksen.
